Mark K is correct! According to Lawrence Weinstein and John Adam in "Guesstimation: Solving the World's Problems on the Back of a Cocktail Napkin," the answer is roughly 1 billion golfballs. The equator is about 25,000 miles long, and golf balls are about 2 inches in diameter. 25,000 miles * 5,280 feet/mile * 6 golf balls/foot = ~1 billion golf balls
